So now that you know the best way to use a microfiber cloth, you want to make sure it is properly cared for so you can get the most out of it. Since these handy cloths are used for cleaning your smartphones and other devices, you want to make sure you aren’t just smearing around the dirt and dust you previously wiped off. And while logically you might think to toss them in the laundry with other towels, there is a better way to care for your microfiber cloths.  Microfiber cloths should not be washed with powdered laundry detergent, bleach or fabric softener, and never in hot water or on high heat in the dryer.

There are actually a couple of ways you can care for your microfiber cloths, one of which is in the washing machine, but not with laundry soap. While you can use the washing machine and dryer to clean your cloths, you should only use warm water and a gentle, liquid detergent such as dish soap. You should wash them separately from other clothing, especially cotton, so you don’t gather lint and other fibers on the cloth, which will ruin it. You can put them in the dryer on low or no heat, without a dryer sheet or other fabric softener. They will dry quickly, so you don’t want to leave them in the dryer for long.

Another way is to wash them in the dishwasher. Simply lay them flat on the top rack and run them through, then take them out of the dishwasher and hang them over your kitchen faucet until dry.

The quickest way to clean them is in the microwave. Unless the cloth is seriously dirty, this is the easiest and fastest way to get a cloth clean. All you need to do is dampen the cloth and put it in the microwave for 1 minute. Once the cloth is cool, it’s ready to use again!  No matter which method you choose, the important thing is to properly take care of your microfiber cloths, and they can last for up to 5 years.
